The scenery is much the same as neighbouring Tuscany, with undulating hills, olive groves, vineyards and cypress trees, while the picturesque ancient walled hill towns, including Spoleto, Todi, Gubbio, Assisi and Orvieto, offer much of cultural and historic interest to visitors. Spoleto is renowned for its summer music festival, while the Roman theatre just below Gubbio dates back to the first century AD and also holds concerts during the summer. In fact, Umbrian art, culture, food and wine are equal to any other Italian region. Umbria is renowned for its truffles, hams and cheeses, as well as its white wine, Orvieto Classico, and red Sangrantino di Montefalco wine.

One of our luxury villas to rent in Umbria is near the very pretty hill town of Todi. Surrounded by medieval, Roman and Etruscan walls, and with a beautiful historic centre, it also provides a great base for visiting the towns of southern Umbria. In late summer, the Todi Art Festival features art, theatre, opera, and music performances and there are also evening events scheduled throughout the summer. Our other luxury rental accommodation is a large and character-filled converted monastery in the north of Umbria, around 30 minutes drive from both Cortona and Gubbio.
