There is no airport on the island, so the only way to travel to Sifnos is by ferry. There are ferries to Sifnos almost daily from the port of Piraeus in Athens. There are also ferry connections between Sifnos and other islands of Cyclades, including Folegandros, Ios, Syros, Santorini, Kimolos, Kythnos, Milos, Paros, Serifos and Sikinos.

Apollonia, the island’s capital, is a relaxed hilltop town of whitewashed lanes, excellent ceramic shops, and a gentle evening volta that sets the tone for the whole island. Kastro, the medieval clifftop settlement on the east coast, is among the most beautiful villages in the Cyclades – its Venetian walls, ancient cemetery, and sweeping sea views rewarding an unhurried afternoon. Artemonas, just north of Apollonia, has a quieter, more aristocratic character with some of the finest neoclassical architecture on the island.
Kastro is the island’s most rewarding landmark – its layered history of ancient, Venetian, and Ottoman occupation visible in the architecture at every turn. The monastery of Chrysopigi, sitting on a rocky promontory connected to the coast by a narrow causeway above a turquoise bay, is the most photographed and most serene spot on the island.
Serifos, the neighbouring island to the north, is a short ferry ride and rewards a relaxed day around its dramatic hilltop Chora and quiet fishing harbour. Milos, with its extraordinary volcanic coastline and celebrated sea caves at Kleftiko, is within easy reach and makes for a rewarding full day. We can arrange private boat charters to explore Sifnos’s more secluded coves and neighbouring islands.
Sifnos has the finest culinary reputation in the Cyclades – the island that produced Nikolaos Tselementes, the father of modern Greek cookery, takes its food seriously. Apollonia’s tavernas are the heart of the dining scene, with slow-cooked chickpea stew, mastello lamb, and revithada the dishes to seek out.
