This coast line which is famous throughout the world for the unique beauty of its sheer cliffs, clear blue sea, and its spectacular corniche road which twists around, revealing secluded bays and promontories. Stunningly beautiful, Positano has made the transition from sleepy fishing village into one of Italy's most popular resort towns.

Built into the steep seaside slope, its pretty pastel coloured houses with flowers and bougainvillea vines are exceptionally picturesque and offer amazing views. From becoming popular with writers and artists in the 1950's, it has lost none of its charm. Positano is a pedestrian town (with many stairs - be warned!), although porters are available at the start of the pedestrian zone to help with luggage. You won't need a car in Positano, but if you do bring one, there is a central car park which can be booked or, alternatively, you can opt to take buses, taxis or tours to visit Praiano, Amalfi, Ravello, Pompeii, Sorrento, or other parts of the Amalfi coast. There are also water taxis for transport to nearby villages and beaches.

Sorrento enjoys a privileged location on a long cliff, amidst lemon and olive groves overlooking the sea about 50 kilometres south of Naples. Public gardens, along the clifftops, offer great walks and views of the sea, as far as Vesuvius in the distance. From the gardens, it is possible to take a lift down to the seaside.
