A luxury villa rental perfectly positioned on ancient dunes between land and sea, offering peacefulness and privacy. Situated on an exclusive 34 000-hectare concession in De Hoop Nature Reserve, ideal for travellers exploring South Africa’s scenic Garden Route or the Overberg. During winter and spring (July to November) you can view dolphins, seals and a myriad of sea birds, as well as the Southern Right whales that migrate here from Antarctica to the warm sees to calve and breed. With a rich history, this Marine Protected Area with pristine beaches and abundant sea life offers an off-grid coastal escape, barefoot beach walks and amazing sunsets. The team of naturalists lead low-tide guided walks to explore the thriving and fascinating intertidal ecosystem, while high tide is best to discover the incredible rolling hills of remarkable fynbos vegetation, as well as more than 260 bird species – including the Western Cape’s only breeding colony of the endangered Cape Vulture. It is also home to more than 86 species of mammal, including the endangered bontebok, Cape mountain zebra and eland, the largest of the antelopes.

Indoors, the décor of this luxury beach lodge transcends the natural beauty of the surrounding reserve, a colour palette of blues and greens is balanced by rich organic textures. At the main lodge our focus is on offering a unique beach experience, the wrap-around deck creates the ideal space to admire the sunrise in the mornings, or the last rays in the evening while on holiday. Meals are family-style at the large communal table or served individually, alternatively on the beach while on vacation. Lunchtime picnic baskets are available on request.

Accommodation:

Lekkerwater luxury beach lodge offers 7 rooms: 6 twin/double, 1 family unit with second loft bedroom and shared open plan vanity and shower, En-suite open plan bathrooms with indoor ‘in-suite’ showers, decorated in a bright coastal feel, mirroring the scenic beauty. Floor-to-ceiling windows deliver remarkable sea views from every corner, while the protected outdoor deck is a perfect oasis of privacy for each room overlooking the five-kilometre stretch of secluded beach. Cool sea breezes take the edge off summer’s heat, while wood-burning stoves keeps the rooms cosy on colder nights.

  • Due to the location of the lodge on a sand dune overlooking the sea, there are several steps down to the beach and some steep walkways that need to be navigated. Our walking guided activities over hills and along the beach, with low tide reefs that are a reasonable walking distance away from the lodge. To get the maximum enjoyment out of Lekkerwater, guests need to be reasonably fit, active and agile, or alternatively they need to be comfortable with just relaxing at the lodge and enjoying the view.
  • Wi-Fi: access is only available in guest suites and due to the location can be erratic. Please note that mobile phone signal at De Hoop is extremely limited to preserve the sense of escapism.
  • Child policy: We welcome children aged 6 years and older. Please be aware that the lodge swimming pool is unfenced, and there is no lifeguard on duty at the pool or on the beach.
