Discover Naxos
Naxos encompasses all the beautiful features which make these islands so popular for holidaymakers … from its beautiful beaches, mountains and green valleys, to its pretty villages with their white and blue ‘sugar cube’ houses, to its fascinating history, dating back to 4000-1000 BC, witnessed by the remains of castles, temples, statues and old churches.
In the historic Old Town visitors will be able to visit the ancient Venetian Castle and the Archaeological museum, and also the beautiful and character-filled old mansions with their arched doors with a coat of arms above, and floors of Naxian marble. To the front of the Castle, the beautiful port and promenade stretch along the seafront, leading to the temple of Apollo. At the island’s port, is another famous historic landmark, the Portara (door), which has been there since antiquity to honour Apollo, the God of Light. The port is also home to many picturesque local tavernas. Also known for its wine, Naxos is one of the alleged birthplaces of Dionysus, the ancient God of Wine.
As well as the island’s beaches, visitors to our luxury villas to rent on Naxos will also enjoy exploring the charming traditional villages on the coastline, and in the mountains. For walkers, there is a rich network of footpaths, offering direct access to the island’s most beautiful natural and cultural landmarks. The island is also known for its fresh food products, including vegetables and fruit, fresh fish, honey, a good selection of local cheeses, citron liqueurs and the fine local Naxos wine.
Sailing is also a popular activity, and experiences on sailing boats and yachts can be arranged, for diving, fishing or just enjoying the views – or visiting one of the other Cycladic islands.

Our Naxos portfolio includes grand Venetian tower houses within the hilltop Kastro of Naxos Town, elegant private villas with pool and sea views above the west coast beaches, Villa Plaka Naxos I and II sits above Orkos bay, offering beautiful sea views.
Naxos is the largest of the Cyclades and rewards those with their own transport – its mountain roads, fertile valleys, and dramatic coastal stretches demand the freedom to explore at will. A private driver is invaluable for evening dining and excursions into the interior. We work with a small number of trusted local operators and can arrange dedicated transport for the duration of your stay.
Naxos is served by regular ferries from Piraeus in around four hours, and by its own airport with seasonal domestic flights from Athens in under forty minutes. A pre-arranged transfer on arrival is the most seamless experience – let us organise this ahead of your trip.
Naxos Town’s Kastro quarter, still inhabited by descendants of the original Venetian families, is best explored on foot at dusk. The Tragaea valley – olive groves, Byzantine chapels, and marble villages – is entirely unlike anything else in the Cyclades. Apiranthos, a proud mountain village of marble-paved lanes, rewards a dedicated half-day.
The Portara – the monumental marble gateway of an unfinished temple to Apollo on the islet of Palatia – is the island’s defining landmark and most beautiful at sunset. The Archaeological Museum within the Kastro houses an exceptional collection of Cycladic figurines, and the Byzantine churches scattered across the Tragaea are among the finest and least visited in Greece.
The Small Cyclades – Iraklia, Schinoussa, Koufonisia, and Donousa – are reachable by daily ferry and offer some of the most unspoiled island experiences in the Aegean. Koufonisia in particular, with its extraordinary turquoise shallows, rewards an overnight stay. We can arrange private boat charters and tailored itineraries for any of these.
Naxos Town’s backstreet tavernas are the place for local graviera cheese, Naxian potatoes, and slow-roasted kid. For fresh seafood, the fishing harbour at Agia Anna on the west coast is the locals’ choice. For a more considered evening, Scirocco in the old market quarter is the island’s most reliable address for elevated Greek cooking rooted in Naxos’s exceptional local produce.
