This Piazza Mattei luxury apartment to rent in Rome is situated on the first floor (piano nobile) of a 16th century Palazzo, which is still owned by the same noble family. Successful bankers from northern Italy, the family moved to Rome to serve the Vatican. Pope Innocent X bestowed the title of Marchese di Baldacchino, a title which raised the family’s social rank to the level of royalty and with it, the privilege to host the Pope in their home for private receptions.

With the renovation of the apartment, the immaculate Baroque interiors served as inspiration for the planning of both the spaces and the furnishing, all done under the supervision of architects. The residence features five bedrooms, five full bathrooms and one powder room, a billiard room, and spacious living room that overlooks Piazza Mattei and the Turtle Fountain. Original 16th and 17th century frescoes by celebrity artists at the time, such as the Zuccari brothers and Cavalier d’Arpino (one of Caravaggio’s early teachers) decorate the ceilings with museum-quality works. It’s 3,200 square foot lavishly appointed interior accommodates up to 12 guests on two floors.

The spacious living area with decorative antique fireplace, has a 65” smart flat screen HD TV with premium SKY channels and Netflix , and a Bose Solo 5 TV sound system.
