Visitors here will love wandering the small streets, as well as the traditional tavernas along the waterfront, where delicious fresh food and wonderful sea views can be enjoyed. Just beside one of the tavernas, there is a natural rock pool which is heated by the sun during the day, perfect for relaxing, while taking in the views. Mochlos is also steeped in ancient history, with archaeological sites of the first colony of Minoan civilization, on a tiny island directly opposite the village, which can be accessed by boat. Extensive excavation here has discovered a pre-palatial cemetery, several tombs, and many more buildings from the Minoan era.
