Discover Vienna

Vienna is the ultimate city for anyone with romantic tendencies, coupled with an interest in culture and history. Wander along narrow, medieval streets or across imperial squares, view Schönbrunn Palace and the Imperial Palace, admire the majestic architecture as you soak up the history, or enjoy the peace of the Botanical Gardens, or attend a performance at the acclaimed Vienna State Opera.

The city is also famous for being the birthplace of the waltz, the city where Sigmund Freud once worked and, of course, Austrian cuisine, which can be enjoyed at numerous restaurants around the city. There is a large screen outside the Opera House where you can sit, view and listen. The Hotel Sacher, famous for its Torte, is opposite. Although the streets around here are crowded, if you wander a couple of streets back you will find the places the locals frequent, and have dinner whilst enjoying the street entertainment.

The famous Habsburg dynasty is clearly evident wherever you go, particularly within the sumptuous Imperial Palace. The Museum Quarter in central Vienna is home to the Museum of Modern Art, as well as the famous Leopold Museum, with its huge collection of exceptional paintings, including artists such as Austrian painters Klimt and Egon Schiele. However, to see Klimt’s most famous work, Kiss, you need to visit the Belvedere Palace. This Baroque architectural jewel consists of two palaces (Upper and Lower Belvedere), surrounded by beautiful grounds, and which today house Austrian art from the Middle Ages to the present day. As well as Klimt, there are also works by Monet and a wonderful sculpture of Cupid and Psyche.
