Nestled in the picturesque Douro region of Northern Portugal, Casa do Rio, which means “River House” in Portuguese, offers breath taking views of the river and a marvellous retreat experience immersed in the renowned Portuguese countryside famous for its Port dessert wine.

Originally built in 1874, Casa do Rio has been meticulously restored to preserve its Douro architectural heritage while seamlessly incorporating modern comforts and amenities. This luxurious property features 8 ensuite bedrooms, each overlooking the tranquil Douro river.

Ideal for large multigenerational families or groups of friends, Casa do Rio boasts multiple seating areas and communal spaces, providing the perfect setting for unforgettable memories. Whether it’s swimming in the infinity pool in summer or enjoying an evening of reading next to the fireplace in colder months, guests at Casa Do Rio will find their own luxury home away from home all year round.

The infinity pool area harmoniously blends with the lush riverside, offering breath-taking views of the Douro river and the gentle Portuguese hills characterised by vineyards and olive groves.

Ground Floor:

Upon entrance, there is a large open space living area that compromises of living room, dining room and kitchen.

Kitchen: well-equipped hidden kitchen with modern amenities and a large glossy white floating counter top with tall stools that can be either used for snack preparation or having a couple of drinks. The kitchen area is secluded from the rest of the living area but has direct access into the dining area.

Dining Room: boasting a large table that seats up to 20 guests and upholstered chairs, this spacious and bright room is perfect for sharing meals with the rest of the group.

Living Room: this spacious open space with large minimal slimline windows, offers direct access to the patio and incredible views of the river. This massive area boasts two different lounge areas. There is a cosy lounge area boasting three Chersterfield velvet chairs and two comfortable designer armchairs and a coffee table. The largest living area compromises of a two large sofas, a coffee table and a flat screen Smart TV. There are also two smaller square tables with comfortable chairs at the disposal of our guests for game nights and playing cards. The whole living area has multiple accesses to the patio and gardens.

First Floor: All the 8 bedrooms are located on the first floor and connected via a long corridor, which is accessible via two sets of floating wood stairs.

All of the bedrooms are meticulously decorated, have their own ensuite and are river front.

Bedrooms details:

2 Master Bedrooms offer each 200×180 cm beds, 1 bedroom has a 200×160 cm bed, 3 bedrooms offer 200×150 cm beds and 2 rooms offer 2 single beds each of 200×90 cm.

Guest House: separated from the main house, it offers a  bedroom with double bed and ensuite with shower. The guest house can be made accessible for guests for an extra fee – please contact your agent for more details.

Outdoor Highlights:

Wooden Patio: directly accessible from the living areas, this patio boasts a large wooden table. On the left side of the patio and not visible from the kitchen and living areas, there is a large infinity pool with Roman Steps (18×3 meters long & 1.20-1.90 meters deep). The swimming pool area also boasts poolside shade and plenty of design sun loungers.

Private Dock: on the right of the house, there is a pathway that descends into the private dock directly on the Douro river banks.

There is a private dock and boat that guests can use upon request and with an extra fee.

Casa Do Rio is fully staffed, 7 days a week from approximately 07:00 to dinner time as follows:

• Professional Chef (breakfast, lunch, dinner and bar service) – please note that guests can access the kitchen for quick snacks as needed
• Garden and Pool Maintenance
• Laundry Service

Casa do Rio is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves  typical of the Douro Region and is located directly on the Douro river front. It is also accessible via water thanks to its private dock.
