The 85 metre high cliff above the caldera is the wall of the submerged volcano crater caused by the cataclysmic eruption of this volcano around 3000 BC, which also caused the demise of the Minoan civilisation. Steeped in history, Santorini has plenty of archaeological sites to visit including the ruins of ancient Fira and Akrotiri.
The cliff-top, home to many of the island's villages, offers spectacular sea views as far as the eye can see. The best locations for views and sunsets include the stunning white village of Oia, on the northern tip of the island. Imerovigli, another picturesque white-washed village between Oia and Fira is also a wonderful location for views, as are Firostefani and Fira. As well as being the largest town on the island, Fira offers a lively atmosphere and a great choice of restaurants and bars.
We also have charming luxury villas to rent in the fertile wine growing area of Megalochori, about 7 kms from Thira. The small village with its winding cobbled streets, historic mansions, traditional houses and wine canavas, offers a popular and authentic Santorini base. For those wanting to be near a beach, we have a stunning villa on the volcanic sand beach of Kamari, and three authentically designed windmills, close to the beach at Pori.
Despite its small size, Santorini is undoubtedly one of the major tourist destinations in Greece and, with flights available either directly from many European airports or via Athens (50 minute flight). Alternatively, the awe-inspiring view as you pull into the cliff-ringed bay makes it worth opting for a boat or flying dolphin to make your entrance!

Frequently Asked Questions
Our Santorini portfolio spans the island’s most coveted addresses – from cliff-edge villas with infinity pools in Oia and Imerovigli including Oia Estate and Villa Pelagos to refined cave houses in Firostefani and private estates above the caldera in Fira like Villa Ammos.
Santorini’s narrow roads and spread-out villages make a private driver genuinely worthwhile – particularly for moving between Oia, Pyrgos, and the southern villages of Akrotiri and Emporio. We work with a small number of trusted, discreet drivers and can arrange dedicated transport for your stay.
Santorini International Airport is centrally located and around 10-25 minutes from most villages. A pre-arranged private transfer is the most seamless arrival experience – let us organise this ahead of your trip.
Oia is best experienced early morning before the day-trippers arrive – its caldera-edge pathways, galleries on Nikolaou Nomikou, and clifftop kastro are genuinely extraordinary at that hour. Pyrgos rewards those who venture inland, with medieval Venetian walls and sweeping island views, while Megalochori and Emporio offer an authentically local pace that most visitors never find.
Oia’s white-washed cave houses, blue-domed churches, and sheer caldera drops are unlike anywhere else in the Mediterranean – and best experienced by staying here rather than arriving for the sunset with the crowds. Position on the caldera edge makes a significant difference to the overall experience, and we match guests to properties in Oia with care.
A private yacht to the volcanic island of Nea Kameni – with a swim in the hot springs of Palea Kameni – is one of the Aegean’s great half-day experiences. For a full day away, private charters to Folegandros or Milos offer dramatic scenery and a fraction of Santorini’s summer crowds.
Selene in Pyrgos is the island’s most acclaimed table, built around local ingredients including Santorini fava, cherry tomatoes, and white eggplant grown in volcanic soil. Metaxy Mas in Exo Gonia is the locals’ quieter alternative – our team handles reservations and can secure tables at both ahead of your arrival.
The Easter celebrations in Pyrgos – a candlelit torchlight procession through a medieval village that dates back centuries – is one of Greece’s most extraordinary cultural moments and almost entirely unknown to international visitors. A private harvest visit to one of the island’s assyrtiko vineyards in late August is equally memorable – we can arrange both in a way no hotel concierge can replicate.
