Spanning 32,000 acres, Borana Conservancy is dedicated to the conservation of land and wildlife while supporting local communities. As one of Kenya’s most successful rhino sanctuaries, Borana, along with the neighbouring Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, forms one of the country’s largest continuous rhino habitats, home to over 200 black and white rhinos, as well as the critically endangered Grevy’s zebra.

Lengishu offers a beautifully designed layout, providing guests with a perfect balance of privacy, comfort, and stunning views across the Borana Conservancy. The Master Cottage, Fish Eagle, is the closest standalone suite to the main house, offering a luxurious and characterful setting. This expansive double bedroom is complemented by its own private sitting area, an open fireplace, and an en-suite bathroom featuring a freestanding copper bathtub and a rain shower. Floor-to-ceiling windows open onto a sweeping terrace, providing breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Perfect for couples, this suite combines elegance with a deep sense of connection to nature.

For those seeking complete privacy, the Goshawk Cottage is nestled into the hillside, separate from the main house. Its spacious double bedroom features an open fireplace, a private veranda, and an en-suite bathroom with a rain shower and a roll-top copper bath. The secluded setting makes this an ideal escape for couples who desire a more intimate experience while travelling with a larger group. Adjoining the Goshawk suite is Gosling, a discreet and cosy children’s room. Designed for younger guests under 12, it features two sets of bunk beds and its own en-suite shower room, ensuring both comfort and proximity to parents.

The Upper Cottage is positioned near the main house and includes two well-appointed double bedrooms leading from a shared sitting room. The Hornbill bedroom has a double bed which can be converted into a twin, while the second bedroom, Hoopoe, has a double bed. This setup is ideal for families with children or teenagers, offering both communal space and individual privacy. A small kitchenette is available for guests who wish to prepare their own tea, coffee, or cold drinks, while an intercom system ensures that those who prefer full service can easily request assistance.

Further down the hill, the Lower Cottage offers a similar layout with two double bedrooms leading off from a shared sitting area. Sunbird has a double bed which can be converted into a twin, and the second bedroom, Whydah, features a double bed. As the most secluded of the cottages, it provides unobstructed views of the valley below, making it an excellent choice for those who appreciate tranquillity and uninterrupted natural beauty. Like the Upper Cottage, it is equipped with a kitchenette for convenience, with the option of room service available via intercom.

Location

Lengishu is located on Borana Conservancy allowing guests to take part in a wide range of activities. Whether it’s freewheeling on a mountain bike, tracking rhino on foot at first light, or galloping through a herd of zebra on horseback, these are experiences which are not easily forgotten. In addition, there are the traditional safari activities such as guided bush walks, game drives, bird watching and freshly cooked meals in the bush. Lengishu offers the perfect base for adventures further a‑eld. Fish for trout on the high-altitude lakes of Mt Kenya, visit a community run elephant orphanage and race down sand rivers on quad bikes.

Lengishu is nestled quietly into a ridge line and blends seamlessly into its surroundings, due to its sustainably sourced design. Stone was excavated from the site itself, earth from the hillside clads the walls and all the timberwork was sourced from within Kenya. ­The main house forms the focal point of Lengishu with vaulted ceilings and large inviting ‑replaces. Four cottages are arranged along the hillside, each elegantly furnished with unique style and character. Accommodating up to twelve guests, this private home is perfect for large family gatherings and groups of friends.
