Beautifully restored castle, boasting panoramic views of the Tuscan hills
Boasting panoramic views of the Tuscan hills which spread towards the Maremma coast, Castello di Vicarello is a beautifully-restored castle and estate built by the Republic of Siena over 900 years ago. The castle is surrounded by 40 hectares of private land with stunning sea views to the west, and rolling green hills and dense forests bordering the property, it is an idyllic and secluded retreat.Full Description
The estate’s expansive grounds boast ancient olive groves, an organic vegetable garden, and farmland where children will love collecting fresh eggs from the henhouse for breakfast. Surrounding the estate are seven hectares of organically-grown vineyards, producing award-winning wines. The romantic gardens are ideal for hosting elegant events or fairytale wedding receptions.
Guests can take a refreshing dip in one of three beautiful swimming pools, enjoy a drink at the poolside bar, or relax in the outdoor lounge or on one of the many terraces and patios throughout the estate. Ideal for al fresco meals, there is a grassy terrace with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. During warmer months, candlelit tables can be set up on the roof terraces, for truly memorable meals.
Indoors, the castle’s buildings have been sensitively restored, preserving their original architectural features including exposed stone walls, stone and terracotta fireplaces, terracotta floors, and impressive vaulted ceilings. The atmosphere created is that of relaxed elegance, with each space carefully decorated with antique furnishings and ancient Italian ceramics, complemented by contemporary artworks.
Guests can socialise in the spacious lounge, or enjoy a fireside side drink in the cosy snug. The spacious Tuscan kitchen is ideal for cooking up Italian feasts, or enjoying a cooking class with the chef. Off the kitchen is the romantic glass-enclosed veranda, with beautiful garden views.
12 well-appointed guest suites are spread throughout the castle and grounds, all with en-suite facilities, and most with sitting areas and terraces or patios. Each suite has been beautifully decorated with a tasteful mix of modern and antique furniture, and a unique Balinese touch, inspired by the owners’ years spent in Indonesia.
Within the main building are two large suites; a master on the top floor, and a second double room on the middle floor. Two suites are located in separate buildings in the garden, one of which boasts a private sauna, steam room and outdoor Jacuzzi. Four suites overlook the courtyard, whilst two are located beside one of the pools. In a separate villa, there are two more en-suite double bedrooms that share a living area and a stunning roof terrace.
Castello di Vicarello is a haven for those who seek design-led properties which have preserved their character and authenticity.
