Wimbledon Tennis Grounds

The Finest Seats in London Start Well Before Centre Court

Every June, the world’s greatest tennis tournament transforms the mood of an entire city. Wimbledon is not just a sporting event – it is a fortnight when London is at its most ceremonially English: strawberries and cream, hushed galleries, and the particular electricity of watching athletic perfection on grass. Securing a ticket is only half the story. The other half is having somewhere worthy to return to.

For the 2026 Championships – running from 29 June to 12 July – The Luxury Travel Book has curated three exceptional London properties that offer both proximity to the All England Club and the kind of considered comfort that makes a Wimbledon stay genuinely memorable. These are not hotels in the conventional sense. They are private residences, staffed and serviced, where the tournament becomes a backdrop to a richer experience of the city.

Why a Private Rental Makes Sense for Wimbledon

The mathematics of a Grand Slam stay are different from a weekend break. Wimbledon runs across a fortnight; most devotees attend for three to five days, often mid-tournament when the draw tightens and every match carries consequence. A private apartment or townhouse gives a group the ability to move to its own rhythm – early morning garden walks, late champagne after an evening session, a kitchen stocked to the precise preferences of guests who know what they like.

There is also the social dimension. Wimbledon rewards the company you keep. A seven-bedroom townhouse becomes a salon: somewhere to host pre-match drinks, debate the afternoon’s results over dinner, and wake up together for another day of it. No hotel corridor can replicate that.

Kensington Court Apartment Three, W8

Living room at Kensington Court Apartment Three, W8

Directly opposite Kensington Palace and Kensington Gardens, this apartment is one of six individually designed residences within a building that blurs the line between private home and five-star hotel. Guests at Kensington Court have access to a gym, resistance plunge pool and sauna within the building, as well as fine dining in the hotel restaurant, afternoon tea in the conservatory, and a 24-hour butler service. The combination of Penhaligon’s toiletries, welcome drinks, and a full grocery shopping service means arrival and departure are as effortless as the days in between.

For Wimbledon, the positioning is ideal. The District line from High Street Kensington station – a six-minute walk – runs directly to Southfields, the gateway station for the All England Club. Alternatively, a car can have guests outside the gates in roughly twenty minutes. Return each evening to one of London’s finest residential settings, where the parks and the quiet of W8 provide a useful counterpoint to the noise of the day.

Kensington Court Apartment Three, W8, Kensington – Opposite Kensington Palace & Gardens. Up to 3 bedrooms | 24-hr butler | Hotel amenities incl. gym, plunge pool & sauna

The space and authenticity of a private home with the service of a five-star hotel.

Henry’s Townhouse, W1, Marylebone

Master Bedroom, Henry’s Townhouse, W1, Marylebone

The former London home of Jane Austen’s favourite brother sits on Upper Berkeley Street in Marylebone, one of central London’s most rewarding neighbourhoods. Henry’s has been renovated throughout by award-winning designers Russell Sage Studio and furnished with beautiful period fabrics, antique pieces and original artwork. The result is a property with rare personality: seven en-suite bedrooms, each named after a member of the Austen family and decorated with its own interior narrative.

For a group of friends or an extended family taking on Wimbledon together, exclusive use of Henry’s represents an extraordinary proposition. The property comes with a private dining room – Monsieur Halavant’s Pantry – where breakfast is served each morning and private dinners can be arranged by candlelight. There is a drawing room for pre-match briefings, a carriage snug for late evenings, and a small terrace for the rare moments of London sunshine. All bedrooms feature Egyptian cotton linen, air conditioning, La Bruket organic bath products, Dyson hairdryers, and Nespresso machines.

From Marble Arch tube – under ten minutes on foot – the Central line connects to Bank and then onward to the District, or a car takes a straightforward route through Chelsea and Putney to Wimbledon. Either way, Henry’s provides the kind of London base that transforms a tennis trip into something closer to a literary house party.

Henry’s Townhouse, W1, Marylebone – Upper Berkeley Street, between Hyde and Regent’s Parks. 7 en-suite bedrooms | Exclusive use | Private dining | Concierge service

Georgian glamour, modern luxury – a home from home for a group of discerning travellers.

Hyde Park Gate Penthouse, SW7

Living room and terrace at Hyde Park Gate Penthouse, SW7

Set over two floors directly beside the Hyde Park Gate entrance, this penthouse offers something that relatively few London properties can: unobstructed views of Hyde Park from both the living room and the master suite’s private balcony. The interior is contemporary and assured – a neutral palette lifted by buttery leather, sculptural lighting and skylights – and has been compared in tone to the pages of Vogue Living.

The penthouse sleeps three across a super-king master suite (with walk-in shower for two, hot tub, and balcony), a double and a single bedroom. The master’s en-suite bathroom is the kind of space that earns its own morning. The long living room balcony, furnished for outdoor dining overlooking the park, provides an unusually civilised setting for post-match analysis.

For Wimbledon guests, the location is among the best in London. Hyde Park Gate puts guests within a six-minute drive of the South Kensington District line, with a direct service to Southfields. Alternatively, Kensington High Street is an easy walk, as are the museums of South Kensington, Harrods, and the Royal Albert Hall – the cultural architecture of a London summer that Wimbledon sits squarely within.

Hyde Park Gate Penthouse, SW7 – Beside Hyde Park Gate, next to Kensington & South Kensington. 3 bedrooms | Two-floor penthouse | Hyde Park views | Master with hot tub & balcony

Unobstructed views of Hyde Park – a refined, inviting space worthy of Vogue Living.

Getting to Wimbledon: Practical Notes

The All England Lawn Tennis Club is at Church Road, SW19 – southwest London, roughly 9–10 miles from Kensington. From all three properties, there are two reliable routes:

By tube: District line from High Street Kensington (6 min walk from Kensington Court) or South Kensington to Southfields, then a short walk or shuttle to the gates. Typically 35-40 minutes door to gate.

By car or taxi: 20-30 minutes from Kensington and SW7 under normal traffic conditions; allow more time on session change-over around 1pm and 5pm.

From Marylebone (Henry’s): Central line from Marble Arch to Bond Street, then District line, approximately 45-50 minutes. A direct car via the A4 takes 25-35 minutes.

Wimbledon 2026 runs from 29 June to 12 July, with the Gentlemen’s and Ladies’ Singles Finals on the final weekend. All three properties are available for short and longer stays across the fortnight; early enquiry is strongly advised.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best area of London to stay for Wimbledon 2026?

Kensington and South Kensington (W8, SW7) offer the best balance of luxury and convenience. The District line from High Street Kensington runs directly to Southfields – the gateway station for the All England Club – in around 30-35 minutes. Marylebone (W1) is approximately 45-50 minutes by tube or 25–35 minutes by car via the A4.

Are luxury private rental properties better than hotels for Wimbledon?

For multi-day Wimbledon attendance, a private rental offers significant advantages: the ability to host your group under one roof, flexibility around meals and schedules, and a more residential experience of London. Properties like Henry’s Townhouse and the Kensington Court apartments offer concierge services and hotel-grade amenities without the impersonality of a large hotel.

When does Wimbledon 2026 take place?

The 2026 Wimbledon Championships run from Monday 29 June to Sunday 12 July 2026 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Church Road, SW19, London.

Can I rent a whole townhouse for a Wimbledon group?

Yes. Henry’s Townhouse in Marylebone (W1) is available for exclusive use by groups of up to fourteen guests across its seven en-suite bedrooms. It includes a private dining room, drawing rooms, and full concierge service – ideal for a celebratory or corporate Wimbledon party.
