Recommended by Le Figaro as one of Paris’s best kept secrets, Ô Chateau is an impressive and innovative wine bar/restaurant in a historic building, close to the Louvre. Offering a choice of over 40 personally chosen wines, as well as some great wine tasting experiences, the concept behind Ô Chateau is based on ‘wine, food and fun!’ The courses can be enjoyed by dedicated wine enthusiasts, as well as total novices. With three private rooms in addition to the wine bar/restaurant itself, there is ample space for both private wine tastings and corporate events.
The wine tasting presentations are given in English and, according to owner, Olivier Magny, a large proportion of his customers are American visitors to Paris. Wine tasting experiences range from The Paris Pass Tastings (€30 per person), taking place every day at 3 pm, and including three glasses of wine, and a talk about the wine regions of France. Just one hour long, it is easy to fit into a day’s sightseeing. If you are looking for a more in depth experience, there is the Tour de France of Wine (€55 per person), which includes six wines (including 1 champagne) and French bread (cheese can also be purchased as an extra) and starts at 5 pm, also 7 days a week. Topics covered include the making of champagne, how to read a French wine label, the main wine regions of France and where to find good value wine. Other tempting options include a Wine and Cheese Lunch (€75) or a Wine Tasting Dinner (€99) – and even a Champagne Cruise on the Seine (€45).
The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and Olivier is a great host – you might like to pick up a copy of his Stuff Parisians Like: Discovering the Quoi in the Je Ne Sais Quoi, while you are there, an amusing tongue in cheek look at the stereotype Parisian and what he likes and doesn’t like!
