About this property

This Grade A listed luxury accommodation rental is very conveniently located adjacent to the Meadows and Edinburgh University. It is within very easy walking distance of the Royal Mile, Princes Street and tourist attractions such as the National Museum and National Gallery.

The house has a fascinating history. It was built in 1776 on a 'gap' site in George Square by Thomas Lockhart, who was the King's Commissioner in Scotland and one of the leading Edinburgh socialites of his day. Originally an extension of the house at No 23, where Arthur Conan Doyle used to live, it has been a separate property for 180 years. In its time it has been a fashionable drawing room during the Scottish Enlightenment, a house and a church, latterly the Orthodox chaplaincy.

The accommodation is spread over three floors, with an exquisite and unique double-height drawing room on the ground floor. This room is fitted with large Georgian windows, and has vast ceilings, giving the room plenty of light. There is a double futon sofa bed in the drawing room as well as a period fireplace. The property has three double bedrooms, two with en-suite shower rooms. There is also a family bathroom with separate shower and bath.

A garden room has original vaulted ceiling, and wood burning stove giving the room a warm and cosy feel. There is also dining area for 6, and a door to the patio area and garden. The kitchen is smart and sophisticated, fully fitted with modern appliances. There is also an additional toilet on garden floor. Private parking is provided.

Accommodation:

Large drawing room, with double sofa bed. Three double bedrooms, two with en-suite bathrooms. Separate family bathroom. Garden room with seating and dining area, equipped with satellite TV. Fully-fitted kitchen. Private garden.
