Discover Waiheke Island

How to Get There:

Getting there is easy too. Catch one of the regular Fuller’s ferries that run to Matatia Bay on Waiheke from downtown Auckland for the 35 minute crossing. Once on the island, there are public buses and taxis, or you can hire a mountain bike, motor scooter or car. If you already have a car or bike, you can bring it over with you on the regular hourly Sealink car ferry, which takes approximately one hour. It is possible to also go to Waiheke by helicopter or light plane, or scenic wine and dine packages are also available from Auckland Seaplanes.

What to do on the island:

Both in landscape and lifestyle Waiheke feels like a world away from city life, despite being so close to Auckland – ideal for a luxury villa holiday! The coastline offers superb beaches, in particular Oneroa, Onetangi and Palm Beach are all perfect for swimming, kayaking or just wandering along the white sand and enjoying the views. Inland, you will discover a number of excellent wineries, their vineyards nestled into the rolling landscape. As well as offering excellent award-winning wines for tastings, you will probably also want to relax over a delicious lunch – among the many choices on the island, we can personally recommend the following: Podere Crisci, Casita Miro, Stonyridge, Te Motu and Man O’War. For lovers of nature, the island offers plenty of walking trails to view native trees and ferns, and wildlife, which are all protected by Waiheke’s National Reserves. There are trails around cliff tops on the coast, or further inland in the native forest. At the eastern end of the island the Stony Batter walkway leads you to gun sites. Underground tunnels and other remains that date back to World War II. Activities available also include yachting, horse riding, mountain biking, diving and snorkelling and kayaking. Last, but not least, Waiheke Island is a haven for artists, as demonstrated by the many galleries on the island, particularly in the main town of Oneroa. The Waiheke Community Art Gallery here offers exhibitions which showcase the best of New Zealand art to the island. The major biennale event in March, Sculpture on the Gulf. is New Zealand’s leading contemporary outdoor exhibition featuring large scale works in superb coastal outdoor settings. Our luxury villas rentals on the idyllic island of Waiheke are situated on the coast, either on, or easily accessible, to beaches
