Set high in the idyllic landscape of the hills southeast of Pisa, the beautiful Villa Macchiaioli luxury villa to rent in Tuscany is accessed via a driveway lined with birch trees and tall gates, which leads into the spacious and well-maintained gardens of the villa. The property was once home to two brothers, renowned artists and philanthropists – Francesco and Luigi Gioli – who for many years invited leading exponents of the Italian impressionist movement “the Macchiaioli” to spend their summers here. It was from here that these painters could venture out into the open countryside, capturing the play of light on nature in all its many hues and facets and transferring them to canvas.
Within the mature garden with century old trees, roses and hydrangeas, there is a swimming pool (11 x 4,5 m) with child-proof fencing, and table and chairs for outdoor meals. On the ground floor, the large living room opens onto an extensive lawn bordered by English roses and hydrangeas. A lovely outdoor living area is shaded by oak trees.
There are six large and airy bedrooms, all of which enjoy a splendid view. They have been decorated in a traditional Tuscan country house style with iron bedsteads, cotton print upholstery as well as with paintings and other family antiques. Above the painter’s atelier, on top of the tower of the villa, a stunning loggia with arches on all four sides gives you marvellous views onto the surrounding landscape. The many amenities here include Hi-Fi stereo, satellite TV, internet access, dishwasher and washing machine. Volley ball and a ping pong table are also available.
