Villa di Liliana luxury villa to rent in Cortona, is one of four holiday rental villas situated in a beautiful area close to the picturesque walled hilltop town, on a large wine and olive oil producing estate. Founded by the Etruscans, Cortona was a major seat of power during medieval times. It cobblestone streets lead to the Medici fortress and the Santuario di Santa Margherita, its highest church, from where there are magnificent views over the countryside. Cortona has a large antique furniture market in August and September. More recently, it became well known as the setting for Frances Mayes’ book, ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’, and the author’s house can be seen from our property. Although 6 kilometres away by car, guests can also choose to enjoy a scenic 2 km walk to the centre of Cortona.
Villa di Liliana is situated near the main villa of the property, occupied by the charming owner. The other three villas (Villa di Orlando and Villa di Nello and Piccolo Orlando) are in completely different areas, making each property very private, yet also suitable for larger groups, or several families wanting to travel together. Each of the villas also has its own private garden and swimming pool, and all enjoy spectacular views over the Cortona countryside. The pool at Casa di Liliana is in a very pretty wooded area, in a higher position to the rear of the house. It is a large pool (13 x 8m) which has been converted from the original antique water reservoir. Outside the house is a lovely wide veranda with wrought iron table and barbecue, suitable for enjoying enchanting candlelit dinners.
Accommodation is in a main house, and an adjacent apartment, which can be rented separately outside high season. On the ground floor, a spacious hallway entry foyer leads into a living room, and one bedroom with en-suite bathroom. The spacious kitchen, once the original clay oven dating back to the 1800’s, is fully equipped with all essential household appliances and amenities. On the first floor there are two bedrooms with views overlooking the Val di Chiana, each with air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms. The entrance to the smaller apartment is on the first floor and is accessible via an external stone staircase with a covered terrace. It has two big living rooms, one with fireplace and the other used as a dining room. The fully equipped kitchen and the dining room are communicating. The sleeping area of the apartment consists of a double bedroom and a twin bedroom, both with en-suite bathroom with shower. There is air-conditioning in the bedrooms and in the living room. Further amenities at the property include heating, washing machine, satellite TV, DVD and internet connection. The estate’s olive oil and wine can be purchased by guests and the owner will also arrange a cook on request, for the arrival meal and during the stay. At the property there is also a Limonaia suitable for a party for a maximum of 32 guests, and a chapel available for rent. Cooking classes and wine tours can also be arranged. Arrival day at this property is a Friday.
