It is about 45 minutes from Santorini, by high speed ferry, or a 4 hour trip from Athens port/Piraeus. It is also on an inter-island ferry route with several other Cycladic islands. Folegandros has become fashionable as an island retreat offering a simple, relaxing and authentic Greek atmosphere, still largely untouched by tourism.

There are just three small villages here, Karavostasi (the port), the Chora and Ano Meria, which are connected by sealed roads, as is Agali Beach. The Chora, closed to car and motorcycle traffic, has three, peaceful tree-shaded squares, the perfect place for a quiet drink or meal. A walk to the church of Panaghia, on the top of a hill, offers a magnificent view over the village and the west coast. The village of Ano Merià has several traditional tavernas, as does the island’s port, Karavostasi, a larger centre also with small hotels, restaurants and shops, and a nearby beach. This and Agali are the only beaches reachable by car. Excursion boats can be taken to other secluded beaches and coves, both sandy and pebble.

Some of these can also be reached by walking or by moped. Although known for its peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, there are a number of activities available, including surfing, waterskiing, sailing, paragliding, diving, tennis and horse riding. There are also facilities for car rental, as well as motorbike, bicycle and boat rental.
